Enthusiastic Paralysis

Know what I mean? I have a bunch of stuff I want to do, and plan to do, but can’t get motivated to start any of it. I’m currently working on:

Quake++. An improvement to the base QuakeC code to make the game more fun/exciting without having to change any maps or the basic gameplay.

ToeTag. A full mod development editing suite including a level editor, model editor, pak file editor, wad file editor, etc. It’s daunting but fun to work on.

New compile tools. I’m going to convert a set of Quake map compiling tools to OSX and enable the multithreading code in them to replace the ones I’ve done for ToeTag. It will be a huge improvement as I’ll now be able to support colored lighting and all the more modern features mappers expect.

Coagula map pack. Just a map that I’ve committed to doing but I’m stuck creatively at the moment.

I have LOTS to work on but it’s tough to get rolling on any of lately. Moving into this new house seems to have sapped my desire to work on hobby projects. I guess I’ll keep playing console games until my desire returns. :)

I know how you feel. And of top of paralysis, it’s way too easy to get sidetracked with too many projects and never finish anything. Because it’s free time, and not work, there’s always the little devil in the back of your head claiming that you don’t need to be disciplined about it. That’s what work is for, this is supposed to be fun!

I’m actually forcing myself to work on BBelief today, because I feel that I have to get it done before I start other big stuff. I *want* to be working on my tilemap XNA engine today. But once I peek down that rabbit hole there’s no coming back…

Of course I’m writing blog comments instead of actually working on the map. Procrastination takes many forms :)

Haha, it does indeed. I have added excuses since moving into this house is consuming every weekend with a whole variety of tasks. That will slow down eventually though and then I can get back to work on some of this stuff.
