I needed to upgrade my compile tools as my current level was breaking the stock id ones. I converted Bengt Jardrup’s tools so that they compile and run on OSX. If you’re interested, you can grab the binaries and the source code here:
http://wantonhubris.com/BJPToolsOSX/
His site along with his documentation is HERE.
The BSP compiler requires full paths to the WAD files at the moment so that’s something to know before trying to use it. Other than that, these should work as they do on Windows.
Oh, and these ones support multithreading. A little extra I like to throw in for my OSX homies.
Is it possible to tie this into the Toe Tag editor?
Oh yes, definitely. The new version of ToeTag, whenever it gets done, is going to contain new compilation tools!
Hi Warren,
Does ToeTag need a full version of Quake to run properly ?
I’ve ordered a version of the original from eBay, but whilst waiting for it to arrive I’ve downloaded the demo from id’s website, and have it running fine with the Mac version of Quake I’ve downloaded from http://www.fruitz-of-dojo.de/php/download.php4?dlnr=2.
However, anytime I try and do anything using ToeTag it just crashes. I’ve downloaded the TTSample map from your website to play with but whenever I try to open it, ToeTag crashes. The only thing I can think of is that the shareware/demo version of the pak0.pak is somehow different to the full version one you’ve coded against ?
I’ll look forward to your reply.
mic pringle: use fitzquake instead, it’s better in every way. http://www.kristianduske.com/fitzquake/
warren: it’s pretty fantastic to finally have modern quake compilers on os x, I’ll give them a spin.
Mic Pringle
Yeah, you’ll need a full version of Quake as ToeTag reads the MDL files and things from the PAK0.PAK and PAK1.PAK files. Besides, I think that’s the only legal way you’re allowed to make levels so it’s for the best anyway.
Hi Warren,
Thanks for getting back to me.
My copy of Quake from eBay arrived, and as you’ve pointed out everything works okay now, with the full version.
However, I cannot get a map to compile. It seems to crash at generating the BSP, and then the following stages fail as they can’t find the BSP file (understandably).
If you drop me an email (your email address bounces) I’ll reply with the exact errors so you can see if you can help.
Thanks

warren _at_ wantonhubris should work.
As for the crash, my money says your WAD file isn’t in the “id1/gfx” directory. It needs to be there currently. I’m fixing that for the next version but 99% of the time when people can’t compile, that’s the issue.
Hi Warren,
Thanks for that, will try the fix later when I’m back at home.
I’m sure that’s the email address I tried, but it just got returned with some errors.
Any idea on when the next version of ToeTag will be out ?
Also, does the light tool in this tool pack support colored lighting ? I’ve just switched over to FitzQuake as grahf suggested above and would love to try out it’s colored lighting features ?
Thanks

“Any idea on when the next version of ToeTag will be out ?”
No.
It’s being worked on but it’s taking awhile.
“Also, does the light tool in this tool pack support colored lighting ?”
I believe this new light tool does but I haven’t played with that aspect yet…

Spot on
… works like a charm now. Although I can’t get it to launch using FitzQuake ?

Is there an error message of some kind? What happens?
