Remake Quake

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Not much going on so that’s why this blog is so slowly updated lately. In the Quake world, I mentioned previously that I had joined the Remake Quake project and I finally got around to setting up my code environment today. Not done yet, but I like to get my work area all set up before I dive in.

I need to figure out what’s already written so I can avoid stepping on toes and such. I haven’t been part of a multi-programmer project in a very long time (aside from work, of course). Should be interesting!

I also installed Snow Leopard on this Mac which has caused me a few hiccups to be honest. I had some OpenGL lock up stuff going on and some of my apps were behaving in strange ways. It seems to be ironing itself out – as I fix each little issue, the whole computer becomes a little more predictable. This is unusual for an Apple update so, frankly, I’m a little disappointed.

What I’m Up To

I have a bunch of irons in the fire at the moment.

  1. I’ve joined up with the Remake Quake project. I think my role there will to implement some sort of Qonquer mode into the base game and to work on maps here and there.
  2. Work continues on my massive new map. It’s still a ways away but it’s coming along steadily. Almost 5,000 brushes now.
  3. I received a bug report about how the new QBSP I released doesn’t work on PowerPC machines. Oops. I’m trying to get my little iBook set up again for development so I can look into that.
  4. I have a ton of awesome ideas in my head for LevelEd but there’s just no time to write code these days. Argh!
