Fair enough. To be honest it looks like an untextured version of alot of what warp was - so I bypassed the detail stage for alot of it.

Just redoing a map atm which was made in such a way - fairly simple, mostly laid out on a 64 grid. It becoming alot more detailed and curvy. It is good to get the gameplay down certainly.

Although in this case its a multiplayer map so putting in entities is less important.

It feels higher at this point, tbh. I like concentrating on the flow and the gameplay at the moment and not getting distracted with the visuals like I normally do. This feels good so far.

but isn't is extremely boring to stare at a blue and white map? this would definitely put me off continuing this method. :S

i mean, i suppose i'd have to try it myself to find out, but do you feel your interest is higher or lower than when you map with textures directly?

I guess it comes down to the definition of "blueprint". I'm not worried about texturing at this point, only alignment of the blue textures and accommodating certain texture patterns (like trims) that I know I'm going to want. There will be more detail added later, no question, but I think you have to be intelligent at this stage about the basics at least.

I can see zwiffle's point though - it seems more like an untextured map as opposed to a blueprint.

Having said that it's obviously caught your imagination enough for you to put enough time in to get it finished quickly - I hope ;) - which is the point of the exercise.

Hey, you do it your way if you want. This is the way I'm doing it. :)

There's maybe 400-ish brushes at this point.

I disagree about which brushes are needed and which aren't. Part of this is to establish theme and feel and you can't do that without the basic architecture in place.

Hey how many hours a day are you putting in on this?

And I don't mean to nag but it seems much more detailed than I really imagined it would be. I mean you have basically a room since yesterday, and lots of little posts that don't need to be there.

You should probably have at least 2-4 more rooms laid out instead of 1 room and some posts.

Also, how many brushes do you have in your layout so far? It looks like a few hundred.
